Product Overview
Discover the delicate charm of Mountain Gold Tawari Honey, a rare and distinctive native New Zealand honey celebrated for its light colour, smooth texture, and subtle butterscotch-like flavour.Sourced from the abundant nectar of the Tawari tree (Ixerba brexioides), native to the northern half of New Zealand’s North Island, this honey offers a naturally creamy consistency and quick crystallisation. Light in colour with a rich, buttery taste, Tawari Honey is perfect for spreading, drizzling, baking, and gourmet cooking. The Tawari tree is a bushy native species with thick, narrow, serrated dark green leaves and panicles of white flowers with green hearts. Flower buds form in March and April, opening from October to the end of December, producing a rich nectar prized by bees. The tree also bears green capsules that reveal black seeds partly covered with a scarlet aril, historically used by Māori for necklaces and adornments during festivities. Our naturally creamed Tawari Honey from the Kaimai Ranges was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the New Zealand National Apiculture Conference in 2023, a testament to its exceptional quality and flavour.Carefully harvested and processed to preserve its natural characteristics, Mountain Gold Tawari Honey is produced in a Halal-certified, export-grade RMP facility and contains nothing added, nothing removed.
