Wedge shaped New Zealand greenstone (2 cm wide by 4cm long) toki (pendant) with diagonal pattern and black cord. Genuine New Zealand Pounamu (Greenstone), sourced and hand carved in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Pounamu is of great cultural significance and is believed to enhance mana (prestige) of its possessor. When received as a gift Pounamu is said to gain value as a special treasure. The "Toki" is a symbol of courage and strength in time of adversity. The toki (adze)was a chizel tool to carve everything from their great wakas (canoes) to the intricate designs found in their marae (meeting house) - it was also used for hunting and settling disputes.
