Product Overview
Natures Kiwi w/Sound 12cm
The Kiwi is New Zealands national icon and while most of us from New Zealand are known as Kiwis many have never seen a Kiwi in their natural habitat and even fewer have heard the Kiwi.
The Kiwi is unusual by bird standards in that it is unable to fly and has hair like feathers.
The Kiwi is mainly nocturnal sniffing out food using nostrils located at the end of its long beak. Its ground based existence makes it vulnerable to predators and the Kiwi is an endangered species.
The smaller males do most of the egg incubating but it is the larger female bird who has to lay an egg about one third its own size - ouch!
Kiwis live in pairs and mate for life, surviving up to 30 years in a predator free environment.
