The Infamous Real Bell: The song starts with the slow, funeral-like tolling of a massive 2,000-pound (one-ton) custom bronze bell tuned to the key of E. The band initially tried to record an actual church bell in Leicestershire, England, but flocking birds kept living inside the tower, ruining the recordings with the sound of fluttering wings. AC/DC then commissioned John Taylor Bellfounders to cast a bespoke bell stamped with the AC/DC logo to record and take on tour.
