Anthrax is a legendary American thrash metal band formed in New York City in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. They are universally recognized as one of the "Big Four" pioneers of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer.
The Classic Belladonna Era (1984–1992): Defined by soaring melodic vocals mixed with intense thrash riffs. This era birthed their most famous albums, including Among the Living (1987) and Persistence of Time (1990). They also famously pioneered the rap-metal genre by collaborating with Public Enemy on "Bring the Noise"
