The Internal Band Fractures: Frontman Ian Gillan admitted that the lyrics heavily mirrored the band members' real-life relationships. Having not spoken for 11 years, they walked into the studio as strangers. Gillan noted that the phrase carried a double meaning: they were literally "perfect strangers" to one another when they reassembled, but the instant chemistry they felt when jamming meant they were also a "perfect" match.
