"The Trooper" is one of Iron Maiden's most legendary heavy metal anthems, released on June 20, 1983, as the second single from their fourth studio album, Piece of Mind. Written by bassist Steve Harris, the song features a world-famous "galloping" rhythm and iconic twin-guitar harmonies. It is visually represented by Eddie the Head wearing a 19th-century British military uniform while charging a battlefield with a bloody sword and a tattered Union Jack.
The track does not feature a traditional chorus, and the phrase "The Trooper" is never actually spoken in the lyrics. Instead, it tells a gripping story from a soldier's perspective The Background: The song is directly inspired by Lord Tennyson’s famous poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade"
