In te ao Maori (the Maori world) this butterfly is more than a creature of beauty, it is a kaitiaki wairua (spiritual guardian), a messenger from beyond the veil guiding us with quiet presence. Linked to the atua (deity) Kahukura, it carries the energy of renewal, connection, and the shifting skies. Its flight reflects not just colour but whakapapa (genealogy) of the layers of identity and ancestry we each carry. Through its gentle presence, we are reminded that even the smallest beings hold deep meaning.
