Product Overview
NZ greenstone (pounamu) Closed Koru pendant measuring approximately 3.5cm diameter.
Greenstone, known traditionally as pounamu is a hard durable nephrite jade which is found only in the South Island of New Zealand. It is a treasured cultural icon (taonga) deeply sacred to Māori, which is traditionally carved into tools, weapons, and symbolic ornaments.
The Koru design represents the fronds of the NZ native silver fern leaf and means new beginnings, harmony and peace. The closed circle added to the design represents the Circle of Life and acts as a shield. Together they show unity and protection and completeness.
Each piece of NZ greenstone is unique, and colouring, size and texture may vary from the image used
