As seen right around the NZ coastline and just off the beach in Napier, NZ Orca. "I am always held in awe when we see the Orca swimming along just off the beach. The drop off is so close to the shore that the Orca skim along the edge waiting for an unsuspecting ray to stop sunning themselves in the shallow and venture out just that bit too far."

If you are visiting Napier you may just see an Orca swimming just off the beach - I always keep an eye on the facebook group www.facebook.com/whalewatchhb for live reports that members of the public can post where the whales are being spotted - it is a community fed page so not always kept up to date. Regular spots include sitting in a beanbag at Magnet Cafe along Marine Parade ... looking out to sea, at the mouth and in the channel near Perfume Point in Ahuriri and right up the coastline from Cape Kidnappers to Mahia - Cruise Ship passengers have reported seeing them in the deep waters of the actual port. My daughter and I have seen them just off the lookout pier near the War Memorial Conference Centre.
