The New Zealand tūī (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) is an iconic, highly intelligent Native NZ bird known for its iridescent blue-and-black plumage, distinctive white throat tufts (poi), and complex, noisy vocalisons that blend musical notes with wheezes, clicks, and grunts.
We have several Tui that visit us daily at home they have a distinctive sound and feed off the nectar.
Tūī use brush-tipped tongues and curved beaks to drink nectar from native flora like kōwhai, flax (harakeke), pōhutukawa, and rātā.
